Have you recently been informed that you must complete a DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation following a drug or alcohol testing violation?
Are you unsure about what the return-to-duty process involves or what steps you need to take next?
Many safety-sensitive employees feel overwhelmed or uncertain when entering the SAP process. Working with a qualified DOT Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) helps ensure the process is handled properly and in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations (49 CFR Part 40).
DOT SAP evaluations are available for safety-sensitive employees who have been referred for the return-to-duty process following a DOT drug or alcohol testing violation. Please note that DOT SAP services require referral through the appropriate employer or program representative before scheduling an evaluation.
SAP services include the initial evaluation, recommendations for education or treatment when appropriate, the follow-up evaluation, and the follow-up testing plan required under DOT regulations. Any recommended education or treatment services are completed with qualified external providers in accordance with DOT requirements.
The goal of the SAP process is to ensure compliance with federal regulations while supporting employees in successfully completing the return-to-duty process.
If you have been directed to complete a DOT SAP evaluation, please reach out today to begin the scheduling process or to learn more about the next steps.
